Ep. 78: Jim Welborne “Go Where Your Heart is”

Jim Welborne grew up in downtown Gary, Indiana just two blocks away from US Steel. Joining The Scouts at a young age gave him purpose and Jim would eventually grow from a curious Cub Scout to Eagle Scout. After graduating from college with a degree in Theoretical Math and a minor in Philosophy, Jim found it difficult to find a job. So, he started teaching math, which he loved. In 1967 Jim led a math club at the school, and that was where he started to teach computer programming.

Despite some ups and downs, Jim would eventually open his own computer consulting business. One of his clients suggested he join him for a The Rotary Club of Michigan City, IN meeting. Seeing parallels with his scouting career, Jim quickly became a dedicated and committed Rotarian, eventually becoming President and even traveling to India with Rotary where they gave out Polio vaccines in 2001.

Listen to our delightful conversation and learn more about Jim’s path to finding what made his heart sing, both as a professional and as a volunteer.
